Fashion Month Begins
As January closed, we were graced with the beauty of Haute Couture and starting this week NYFW already began! While I’ve always admired the beauty and sheer craftsmanship of Haute Couture, the shows and (especially the pieces (it seems like a sacrilege to call them clothes)) were a breath of fresh air especially during the times where we’re all wearing leggings and sweatpants. Sure it’s already been a few weeks and we’re all ready for what NYFW brings, I wanted to share what I love most about Fashion Month: the artistry and storytelling behind each showing - from Dior’s ethereal presentation, to Schiaparelli’s over the top details, to Giambattista Valli’s frothy creations, to Valentino’s beautiful backdrop of Palazzo Colonna it was absolutely breathtaking. These are only but a few and each show certainly had their own unique signature of their looks, backdrops and the message each designer wanted to give.
Couture week is always a bit more about fantasy than functionality but I think it’s the perfect beginning to all of the pret-a-porter shows that are New York, London, Paris, and Milan Fashion Weeks. While the fashion houses have embraced technology and started virtual shows, I feel like they’ve become much more accessible to allow us to keep up with an ever changing industry but more than that to take inspiration.

I will definitely be logging on to watch the shows on nyfw.com and share with you my favorite looks. To gear myself up for upcoming fashion month, I decided to rewatch The Devil Wear Prada - it’s still one of my favorite movies and to me captures exactly what I love about fashion - a fantasy world rooted in the daily grind of life. Ocak ayının sonunda Couture haftasının getirdiği güzelliğinin ardından bu hafta New York moda haftası başladı (bile)! Haute Couture un narin el işçiliğini her zaman inanılmaz beğenmişimdir. Özellikle legging ve eşofman takımı giydiğimiz bu zamanlarda tam bir damak temizleyici oldu sanki. Tabikide Couture haftası geçeli birkaç hafta oldu ve hemen gözü NY moda haftasına çevirdik bile ama moda ayının en çok sevdiğim noktalarını paylaşmak istedim: sanatkarlığı ve hikaye anlatımları: Christian Dior’un narin güzelliği, Schiaparelli’nin maksimalist yaklaşımı, Giambattista Valli’nin bulutlar kadar hafif görünümlü tasarımları, ve Valentino’nun muhteşem mekan seçimi ile her biri birbirinden büyüleyiciydi.
Couture her daim işlevsellik den ziyade bir fantezi üzerine kurulu olsada bence New York, London, Paris ve Milano moda haftaları öncesi tam da ihtiyacımız olandır. Pandemi nedeniyle moda evleri teknolojiyi kendilerine adapte edip sanal gösterimleri arttırdıkça hem daha erişilir oldular, hemde ilham verici olduklarını düşünüyorum.
Bu süreçte nyfw.com sitesi üzerinden gösterimleri takip ediyor olup, favorilerimi paylaşacağım. Hatta kendimi moda sokmak için The Devil Wears Prada filmini tekrar seyrediyordum ve bence film moda hakkında en çok sevdiğim konuyu çok güzel özetliyor: günlük hayat odaklı bir fantezi dünyası.
