International Women’s Day
While technically IWD was yesterday I didn’t want to limit it to just one day. I was lucky enough to be born in a country that had women's equality and rights ahead of a number of developed countries - where historically (after Atatürk) women were revered and supported to be independent and able to accomplish what they wanted. I have also been lucky enough to be surrounded by strong independent women, from family to friends, who taught me that you are capable of accomplishing what you set your mind to. They have proven that to me over and over through the years. And with them I’ve learned that it's more powerful (and meaningful) to choose rather than to need. That is the message that I want to share with you.
While we are capable of quite a lot, we should also be supporting each other rather than see each other as threats - especially in a world that is ready to marginalize us. But that burden falls on us - to see what makes each one of us special and help showcase that. With that I say always celebrate yourself and all of the strong and capable women out there.
