Hani o sosyal medya bayramları var ya… dün #nationalcoffeeday olup yarın #internationalcoffeeday miş. Malum hem ulusal kahve günü hem uluslararası kahve günü olup bende bu kadar kahve içmeyi seven bir kişi olarak bu haftaki blog postunun kahve üzerine olmasının çok uyumlu olduğunu düşünüyorum. İstanbul genelinde ve özellikle Kadıköy yakasında cafeden bol bir şey yok desem yeri var ama nedense hep bir iki tanesi benim için daha çok akılda kalıyor.
Favori mekan olarak tanımladığım yerler benim için neden favori oluyor derseniz, öncelikle kahvenin ve yemeklerin lezzetli olması şart. Sonra biraz ilham verici olmasını seviyorum. Mesela canım sıkıldığında bilgisayarımı alıp o mekana gittiğim zaman ne kadar rahat ve seri çalışabiliyorum (örneğin bu postu yazarken) ona bakıyorum. Genel olarak servisin iyi olması gerekiyor, ve birde hayvan dostu bir mekansa işte tamam diyorum. Her ne kadar ben kendi kedilerimi kapıp gitmesemde sokak kedilerinin rahatsız edilmeden bir koltukta uyuduğunu, köpekler için ayrı su kaplarının elde olduğunu görünce o mekan bana birden bire daha sempatik geliyor. Ve tüm bu özellikleri içeren en favori üç mekanımı sizlerle paylaşmak istiyorum.
Bu mekanın ortamını çok seviyorum. Dışarıda oturabileceğin terası, yeşillikler arasındaki keyif alanları hem biraz Hide Arnavutköy’ü andırıyor hemde arkadaşlarınla kahve içip biraz dedikodu yapmak için muhteşem bir yer haline geliyor. Ama bir o kadar da bilgisayarını alıp çalışmak için ideal bir lokasyon. Özellikle içerideki ortak masada zaten senin gibi bilgisayarı önünde, kahvesi yanında birden fazla kişi görüyor olacaksın (örneğin ben). Kahve güzel ve kahvaltı seçenekleri şaheser diyebilirim. Ayrıca hm kahvaltıları hafta arası 12:45’e kadar devam eden ender mekanlardan hemde porsiyonları baya cömert. Benim favorilerim çırpılmış yumurta ve egg slut (ama dikkat, bu hafta sonları çok çabuk tükeniyor). Ayrıca içerideki deri kanepe ve bol yeşillikleri ayrı bir hava katıyor.
Aslında Fern’e çok yakın bir mekan ama bir o kadar da sanki farklı iki dünya. Her ne kadar bir zincir olsada, sahipleri (muhteşem tavsiyeler veriyorlar) ve lokasyonundan dolayı çok keyifli bir mekan. Kahveleri güzel ve ayrıca brownieleri (iki kere ısıtıldığında) inanılmaz oluyor. Ayrıca aplikasyonlarını yükleyince hem her kahve için puan kazanıyorsun (her 10.cu kahve bedava) hemde doğum günün için o muhteşem brownieleri güzel bir hediye oluyor. Ayrıca eve kahve alacağım zaman Guatemala kahveleri çok güzel oluyor. Dış oturma mekanları çok keyifli oluyor ama aynı zamanda içerideki ping-pong masası ve yeşil kadife kanepeleri fotoğraf çekimi için ideal bir yer oluyor. Aynı zamanda dışardaki oturma alanlarında bolca bulunan prizler burada çalışmayı inanılmaz kolaylaştırıyor. Buradaki favori içeceklerimden biri karamel latte leri - karamellerini kendileri yaptıkları için muhteşem bir tadı oluyor (mesela bu sahiplerinden aldığım muhteşem tavsiyelerden biri).
Listedeki en son açılan mekan diyebilirim. Hem instagram için fotojenik bir mekan hemde biraz insan seyretmek istiyorsan ideal bir lokasyon. Hafta sonları önünde kuyruk olabiliyor ama beklemeye değiyor. Kahveleri yine olması gerektiği gibi güzel. Ben her ne kadar badem sütlü kahve siparişime sadık kalsamda yeni aldığım bir öneri doğrultusunda bir daha gittiğimde kömürlü latte lerini deneyeceğim. Hem çok güzel geliyormuş (fotoğraf için) hemde tadı çok güzelmiş…. Bakalım denedikten sonra haber veririm. Kahvaltı için avokado tostları çok güzel ve doyurucu oluyor, ama canın tatlı çekti ise çikolatalı kurabiyeleri de gayet leziz oluyor.
Şimdi her ne kadar bu üç mekan ilk aklıma gelenler olsada bir diğer sıklıkla uğradığım üç mekanım daha var. Klar Coffee (her iki lokasyonu): hem gayet keyifli mekanlar ama bir o kadar da güzel kahveleri oluyor. Bulabildiğim zaman Kenya kahvelerinden hemen eve alıyorum. Her iki lokasyonda güzel olsada Caddebostan daki yeri daha kalabalık oluyor. Derken Erenköy’de Mankind var. Cadde üzerinde olmadığı için hep atlanıyor gibime geliyor ama hem çalışmak için ideal bir lokasyon (hem iç hem dış mekanı çok keyifli), bol bol priz var, ve ayrıca kahve ve yemekleri gayet lezzetli oluyor. Son olarak da Naive var! Hem kahvemi içmek istiyorum hemde sonra çiçek almam gerekiyor diyorsan (ister kendine ister başkasına) ideal bir lokasyon. Hem sahibi inanılmaz tatlı bir insan hemde her gün taze çıkan vegan ve rafine şekersiz bir sürü atıştırmalık oluyor.

It seems that while yesterday was #nationalcoffeeday tomorrow is #internationalcoffeeday and since I love coffee, it seemed appropriate that I write about my favorite coffee spots this week. While we have no shortage of coffee shops around the city (especially where I live) there are a few that always seem to stand out.
Some things that I look at when choosing my favorite spots is obviously good coffee and good food but also I love a place that’s a bit inspirational: where I can bring along my computer and work. A pleasant change of scenery that helps me buckle down and write this blog post :) There has to be good service and to be honest a pet-friendly place makes all of the difference in how I look at an establishment. While I may not bring along my cats, places where you see them curled up on a couch, or where there are designated water bowls for dogs that come with their human patrons: to me makes the place all that much more sympathetic. And with that here are my favorite spots on the asian side of İstanbul:
Fern Cafe
I love this place for all of its space: the outdoor terrace and lounge space is reminiscent of Hide Arnavutköy but perfect for grabbing some coffee and chatting away with friends. Also a great place to bring along your computer and work the day away. Which you will see quite a bit of at the communal table inside (all of us sitting with laptops and coffee). The coffee is good, with an exceptional breakfast offering that lasts until 12:45 weekdays (which is a rarity) and very generous portion sizes. My favorites are the scrambled egg and egg slut (which tends to run out early on the weekends). The inside is just as wonderful with a large leather couch and plenty of greenery that is most welcome.
Kronotrop Fenerbahçe
A spot just a stone's throw-away from Fern though it somehow feels like a good neighborhood away. It may be a chain coffee spot but the local owners are wonderful with the most insightful recommendations and their brownie (when heated twice) is to die for. Coffee is again wonderful and their app helps you collect points (every 10th coffee is free) and the birthday brownie is a wonderful touch. I also love grabbing a bag of their Guatemala beans for making coffee at home. Their outdoor space is amazing, and the ping-pong table with the green velvet couch makes for a wonderful instagram photo-op. One of my favorite drinks is their caramel latte with homemade caramel! This was one of their insightful recommendations. The numerous electrical outlets that they have around their seating arrangement makes it an amazing location to work outside of the home / office.
Grön Hus Suadiye
The newest member on this list is the perfect spot for gorgeous instagram photos, and a place to go to if you want to see and be seen. You definitely need to step up your outfit game here. Beware that there may be a line outside over the weekend, but I would say worth the wait. The coffee is again good. While I tend to stick to my classic order of filter coffee with almond milk, I hear that their charcoal latte is both delicious and quite photo worthy (which I will try the next time I’m there). I’m a fan of their avocado toast with scrambled eggs and their chocolate chip cookie for when you want something sweet but I still have a while to test out the rest of the menu.
While these three tend to be my top go-to’s there are few more that deserve an honorable mention. Klar Coffee (both locations): I not only love their food but I also love their coffee beans. I generally get a bag of their Kenya beans if I can find it. Both locations are wonderful though their first spot in Caddebostan is a bit more social. Mankind at Erenköy, which I feel like often gets overlooked because it’s just off of Bağdat Avenue, it’s another great place to work, with great food and coffee. And finally Naive, for when you want or need to pick up flowers together with your coffee needs. The owner is wonderful and daily made vegan and refined sugar-free offerings at hand.
